Dr. Steven Okuhn’s passion for early detection of vascular disease led him to build breakthrough aneurysm surveillance and screening programs that earned national recognition. As Illuminate’s Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Okuhn leverages technological innovation to optimize patient outcomes on a large scale in the field of vascular diseases, as well as other oncology and chronic disease states.Dr. Steven Okuhn graduated summa cum laude with an A.B. from Harvard College and received his M.D. from Stanford University. He trained in General and Vascular Surgery at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) where he has been a member of the Surgical Faculty since 1989. A member of various surgical societies, he has authored 28 book chapters and peer-reviewed scientific articles, many in the area of Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm (AAA). He continues to be actively engaged in clinical research, primarily in the area of aneurysm disease. He is board certified and re-certified in both General and Vascular Surgery and practiced Vascular and Endovascular Surgery at Kaiser Foundation Hospitals based in San Francisco for 28 years. He is currently an Associate Professor of Surgery at UCSF and works at the San Francisco Veterans Administration Hospital. In 2012, Dr. Okuhn enlisted the aid of Illuminate CEO, Matt McLenon, and the two have collaborated closely since. Dr. Okuhn’s considerable clinical knowledge and expertise in the diagnosis, management, and treatment of aneurysm disease has been instrumental in the evaluation, validation, and implementation of Illuminate Discovery360™ AAA in hospital systems around the country.
